License Plate Frame

Most novelty plate frames are a sticker on moulded plastic, and you can tell within a season. This one is drawn as a solid model, and each colour is printed 0.60 mm deep into the face and finished flush — so there's no decal edge to catch a pressure washer and nothing to lift at the corners after a wet winter.

It's printed in PETG, which handles UV, road salt and cold far better than the filament most printed parts arrive in. It's still plastic, mind — treat it like a plate frame, not a bumper.

Each one is printed after you order rather than pulled off a shelf, so give it a few days on the printer before it goes in the post.

It uses the standard North American plate frame footprint, with mounting holes at the standard 120.65 mm spacing. If your car takes an ordinary frame from an auto parts shop, it takes this one.

Three different parts get called the same thing, so — plainly:

Frame

The decorative surround. Bolts through mounting holes the car already has and sits between the plate and the bumper. It adds no mounting points. This is what Konbini Plate makes.

Bracket

Adds holes where the car doesn't have any — the usual fix on a Japanese import whose front bumper was never drilled. Tow-hook brackets thread into the factory tow eye; bumper brackets bolt or tape on. We don't sell these, but the frame fits over one once it's fitted.

Adapter

Converts one bolt pattern to another — most often JDM plate spacing to the North American 120.65 mm pattern, or a relocation kit that moves the plate off-centre.

No front plate holes on your import? Common on cars brought in under the 15-year rule. Fit a no-drill tow-hook bracket or a bumper bracket first, then this frame bolts onto that. Plenty of shops around Richmond and Burnaby will sort the bracket in an afternoon.

BC issues two plates. Passenger vehicles registered in BC get a front plate and a rear plate, and the Motor Vehicle Act asks for both to be securely fastened and displayed horizontally. Motorcycles and trailers are the usual single-plate exceptions.

Nothing may cover the plate. BC's rules are stricter than most: the plate has to be entirely unobstructed and plainly readable, which rules out tinted or clear plate covers and any frame that laps over the characters. This frame has a standard opening and sits outside the plate's printed area — but you're the one who has to be happy with it, so check yours once it's fitted. Fines for an obstructed plate run in the low hundreds.

Printed and packed in British Columbia and posted from here, so a Vancouver, Richmond or Burnaby order is usually a day or two in the mail rather than a week. Everywhere else in Canada, the usual Canada Post timings apply.
